루피의 평가절하가 지속되면서 인도시장의 스마트폰 가격이 상승하고 있다.
그럼에도 불구하고 수입되는 고가 스마트폰 업체들의 가격은 큰 변동없이 유지되고 있다.
그러나 새로 출시되는 고가 수입 스마트폰의 가격은 환율에 맞추어 몇 % 정도 인상될 것으로 보고 있다.

환율의 변동이 매우 커서 외환 위기의 위험이 있다고 알려진 인도에서 스마트폰의 가격은 환율변동으로 인한 원가의 상승을 반영하지 못하고 있다. 중국에 이어 가장 빠르게 성장하고 있지만, 낮은 소득수준으로 인해 스마트폰의 점유율이 10% 대에 불과하고, 반명 잠재 시장규모는 중국에 버금가는 인도 스마트폰 시장은 격랑을 거칠 가능성이 있다. 가장 심각한 것은 시장의 위축이지만, 그보다는 성장속도가 기대보다 둔화되는 정도일 것으로 본다.

삼성이 여전히 1등이지만, 2등 이하 현지 업체들의 도전이 거셌고, 애플이 저가 아이폰으로 점유율 상승을 노리고 있는 시점이었다. 폰 업체들의 가격정책에 따라 시장점유율에서 큰 변화가 발생할 수 있고, 향후 1-2년간 글로벌 업체들간의 명암이 갈릴 수 있다.
